The United States (U.S.) is proud to support Haiti’s leadership in the national HIV/AIDS response. PEPFAR is collaborating with the Government of Haiti (GOH) to maximize the quality, coverage, and impact of the national HIV/AIDS response through direct service delivery and technical assistance. Despite significant challenges in the public health system, which were exacerbated by the 2010 earthquake, PEPFAR and the GOH remain committed to achieving an AIDS-free generation in Haiti. The Partnership Framework to Support Haiti’s Health Strategy 2012-2017, signed by representatives of the U.S. government and the GOH in 2012, outlines how PEPFAR investments will strengthen the health system and infrastructure, as well as reduce HIV infections, particularly through the provision of HIV treatment services. Working closely with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, civil society, and other development partners, PEPFAR is supporting life-saving antiretroviral treatment (ART) for over 80 percent of people in need (CD4 <350). Other priorities include:

  • Increasing access to quality integrated health services, including for HIV/AIDS
  • Implementing cross-cutting activities for HIV/AIDS-related surveillance, laboratory systems strengthening, human resource capacity building, health information systems, and supply chain management
  • Rebuilding health facilities and physical health infrastructure
