A delegation of representatives from PEPFAR/HRSA, INCI, and in-country US Government team met with the representatives of the Ministry of Health, as well as nursing education leaders to initiate NEPI in July 2011. Follow-up stakeholders’ meetings have focused on analyses of the nursing landscape based on assessments done by INCI-Ethiopia. They identified, as gaps: inadequate number of midwives and well-trained midwifery tutors; lack of capacity to meet needs of an increased number of nursing students; lack of well-resourced clinical skills laboratories for learning midwifery; and lack of part-time opportunities for advanced study. Currently no schools are selected for implementation.
