Statement from Ambassador Eric Goosby, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, on the Appointment of Mark Dybul as the Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

November 15, 2012

The United States congratulates Mark Dybul on his appointment as the Global Fund’s new Executive Director. Mark’s expertise and dedication to advancing global health makes him an excellent choice to lead the Global Fund as it works to save more lives now and in the future.

As the former U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, Mark guided all U.S. efforts to respond to the devastating AIDS epidemic, helping to develop a truly global emergency response. Mark’s ability to work with all partners in a collegial and constructive fashion will serve him well as the new Executive Director.

Fighting AIDS, TB and malaria is a shared responsibility in which a robust multilateral response is critical. The Global Fund is a principal tool to make this response a reality. The United States has been vigorous in its efforts to ensure that the Fund is operating in a highly efficient and effective manner. We are pleased that over the last year, under the leadership of Gabriel Jaramillo and the Fund’s Board, the Global Fund is assuming the role as an active investor. We are hopeful that the new funding model adopted by the Board today further strengthens the Global Fund’s ability to ensure that resources are wisely allocated to accomplish the greatest good.

Mark Dybul’s appointment will further advance the progress that has taken place over the last year. That’s good news for the millions of people who rely on the Global Fund’s work to improve and save lives. U.S. Government interagency website managed by the Office of U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator
