Statement by Ambassador Eric Goosby, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, in Response to Germany's Pledge to Contribute EUR 1 billion (USD 1.3 billion) to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

January 24, 2013

“The United States commends the Federal Republic of Germany for its renewed public commitment to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund). We value the prominent role Germany has played since the Global Fund’s creation, and we deeply appreciate the substantial contributions of our German colleagues in advancing key reforms at the Global Fund. We look forward to our continued partnership to strengthen the Global Fund and save more lives.

Fighting AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria is a shared responsibility that is critical to enabling implementing countries to respond effectively to their epidemics. The Global Fund is a principal tool to make this response a reality.”
