Francheskie Velez, Deputy Coordinator for Country Oversight and Accountability
Francheskie Velez serves as the Deputy Coordinator for Country Oversight and Accountability at the U.S. Department of State’s Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Health Diplomacy (S/GAC). In this role, she leads efforts working with PEPFAR-supported country programs and implementing agencies around the world.
Previously, Velez served as Senior Advisor for S/GAC’s executive leadership, directing the coordination of all major PEPFAR meetings, including country/regional operational plan management and approval meetings as well as the 2016 PEPFAR annual meeting in Durban, South Africa.
Before joining the U.S. Department of State, Velez spent more than nine years working at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As a Senior Program Manager at CDC’s Division of Global HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis in Atlanta, she was essential in the development, coordination, and implementation of the division’s country management and accountability field visits throughout Africa and Asia.
During that time, Velez reported directly to the Division Director and served as the lead representative for CDC’s collaborations with the World Health Organization and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS. She also served as the project officer of CDC and PEPFAR’s technical assistance agreements for treatment transition.
A native of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Velez enjoys exploring new coastal locales with family and friends.
